CONTROLLER'S COMMENTS

I'm a bit lazy as far as training goes so I like to control winter badge events on tough areas as it makes me do some long hard runs. However, Saturday afternoon was a bit more than I bargained for with glorious sunshine (if rather biting winds) giving way to complete white out conditions along with thunder and lightning within 25 minutes. It was a good job I had cag, overtrousers, gloves, and hat in my bum bag. I enjoyed Guy's planning with the mixture of long tough legs and intricate short ones. The map has the right degree of simplification, making it readable at speed.

The organisation was excellent. Several people had problems with control 80 and a few failed to find it having convinced themselves they were in the right place (they were below the ditch junction on the map). It was a bit too cold for me to go back and check (and anyway I'd already run for 6 hours that weekend) but looking at the old map there are many more ditch junctions than the one the control was on. I must admit I didn't notice these - the control was on the major junction with ditches you had to jump rather than just stride across. However, being a generous soul and after constructive comments from those who did find the correct site but who also noticed the other ditch junctions, I have asked for those who failed to punch control 80 to be reinstated.
