The Old Dronfield Society

The Old Dronfield Society was formed in 1968 to promote interest in the history of the town and its neighbourhood.


 

AIMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

The Society encourages research and recording of the history of Dronfield and its ancient parish which includes Apperknowle, Barlow, Coal Aston, Dronfield Woodhouse, Holmesfield and Unstone.

  • Meetings are normally held on the fourth Thursday of September, November, January, March and May with a Christmas meeting early in December and the Annual General Meeting on the fourth Thursday in April. Speakers and topics are varied - with contributions from Society members as well as lecturers from Derbyshire and Sheffield. >>> more
  • Conservation of surviving buildings and features of the town and area has been a major objective and we carefully monitor any plans for re-development or alterations of old buildings. >>>more
  • Members are kept in touch with the Society's activities by a regular newsletter. >>>more
  • The Society has sponsored and contributed to publications about the history of the town. >>>more
  • The Society has a large collection of photographs and is always interested in seeing and copying original material. >>>more

MEMBERSHIP AND SUBSCRIPTION

The Society's year runs from 1st April to 31st March. The subscription is currently £5.00 per annum and is due on 1st April each year. (Visitors are welcome to attend meetings at a charge of £1 per meeting.)
