EXHIBITION 2009 The Society held its annual exhibition in the Peel Centre over the weekend of 6/7 June and the theme this year was "The outlying Villages in the Ancient Parish of Dronfield". The exhibition drew many visitors. For the first time, other interested groups were invited to join us in putting up displays. Our thanks go to those from Holmesfield, Coal Aston, Dore and Totley and from the Dronfield and District Family History Society, all of whom not only came in advance to help set up the exhibition, but made themselves available to answer questions over the run of the exhibition. The Family History Society's exhibit featured the war memorials in the Parish. Other areas represented included Unstone and the smaller hamlets - Stubley, Dronfield Woodhouse, Cowley, Hilltop, Apperknowle ... The Society is extremely grateful for the generosity of many people who loaned treasured items to be put on display along with documents and photographs from its own collection. The David Salt display case housed items from the Moore Collection of memorabilia relating to Unstone, including a silver fruit stand presented to J.R.Johnston a hundred years ago for his work in the community. |
